As the South African link of the McGlynn family we moved over to Ireland in 1999 and settled into Mountmellick, Co. Laois with the intention of setting up a small business related to South Africa. After careful consideration and the fact that South African wines are well received worldwide we decided that this would be our starting point.

Whilst travelling around the wine regions of the Cape area of South Africa we happend upon the Ruitersvlei Wine Estate which is run by the Faure sisters and recently we discovered Haut Espoir.

Near the southern tip of Africa, where Table Mountain rises out of the sea to cradle the city of Cape Town, lies a remarkable region. With its mild Mediterranean climate, rich soils, long summer days and plentiful winter rainfall, it is no wonder that it was here, in 1862, that Johannes Albertus Faure found a home for his family and began a tradition, which has become Ruitersvlei Estate.

Though it is not unusual for a wine farm to pass from one generation to another, the latest generation at Ruitersvlei is a bit out of the ordinary. Today, Ruitersvlei's wines are produced and marketed by daughters Nicolette and Belinda. Together, these sisters are writing not only the next chapter in their family saga, but earning themselves a place in the future of the South African Wine Industry.
